| and was awarded the trophy/coin for his Place/Class. He's currently bitching about receiving a printed certificate of his accomplishment. I'm not exactly elated w/the trophies we received this year, but it is up to the HOSTING CLUB to determine what prize are awarded. This is one of many perceived problems w/ZCCA - but please remember, nobody takes home a paycheck for running the ZCCA. Its an all volunteer organization that charges $2/year for membership, and is constantly getting beat down with the "What have you done for me lately" or "Your bylaws cost me more $$$ than if I was not a member club at all" I think alot of first time ZCON Car Show participants are put off by the manner of judging, delays in receiving trophies, etc. To be honest I understand a lot of those feelings, but this is the manner in which the ZCCA has designed the car show. I have some sympathy for the ZCCA folks, as they honestly have very little operating capital. They struggle each year to find a hosting club and ZCON is largely a community effort. Each hosting club has historically been responsible for building and maintaining the sponsor relationships. This has lead to no loss of frustration on the part of the sponsors, many of whom have publicly stated that they "were never even asked, much less told where to send a check" Their higher profile sponsors (Z1, AMS, NISSAN) generally lag behind in getting funds, supplies, give-aways, etc. delivered to the hosting club, and in the case of Nissan USA, it is my understanding that the ZCCA has no idea how much $$$ will be ponied up until the check arrives (Often the week before, or AFTER ZCON). This year, the ZCCA has appointed a single person within the ZCCA in charge of maintaining those relationships, with the hope that the sponsors will have a more consistent experience with ZCCA. As a result, the ZCCA seems to employs several cost saving measures, to include NOT having trophies made until AFTER the car show. This ensures that extra trophies are not made and money wasted. This has of course lead to significan delays each year, and in an attempt to rectify this the Coins were made for this year. If you'd like to institute some changes in the way the ZCCA is run, I'd encourage you to attend the ZCCA meetings @ ZCON, get involved with your local club, and do something other than bitch. Chris Karl (never trust a man with two first names...) has stated that they are open to volunteers, but I imagine you really need to be able to commit. Lots of people have recommendations (aka complaints) but few are willing to stick around and work for a year+ in order to implement those changes.
If not, then you probably need to move on. You are effectively bitching at the girl scouts for not selling cookies year round, after you've already got your cookies. I hope you have larger priorities in your life than that. *** DISCLAIMER *** I'm not on the board of ZCCA and some of what I've said is speculation. This was my first time entering the ZCON Judged Car Show, so I understand what you are going through. I don't think anyone, including the board members are ever 100% happy with anything that goes on in ZCCA/ZCON - i think that's just life as they say.
